Dance: Out of the Silence
By Leonardo Rosen
Thanks to the wall of silence erected by the previous municipal government, “El Danzón y Otros Ritmos Bailables con el Club de Danzón Mercerina” now appears on your “whatever happened to…?” list. I am very pleased to announce that there is no such thing with our new government. Arq. Gustavo Vidargas Larrea, the new director of Culture and Traditions, has received me very cordially, for which I am grateful. He has wisely assigned the very competent Gaby Yunes to be my contact person in his department. She and I worked together quite well in the past.
However, this does not mean that our events in the Jardín Principal may be renewed right away. The new and returned people at Culture and Traditions, like those in the other departments, are working hard to make order out of chaos. I need not say more. It would be wrong for me to be “pushy” with them. I have faith that they will deal with my issues as soon as they can. We’ve waited this long, and we can wait a little more.
In the meanwhile, we give classes at El Sindicato (152 0131) and are preparing to perform at the Muestra Nacional del Danzón de Querétaro 2015, November 21–23. We just performed for the patients at Cielito Lindo (assisted living) and plan to do so at ALMA (home for the aged) and at Casa Hogar Santa Julia (home for girls). Even if you do not speak Spanish, I hope you will listen to Al Son de Danzón on XESQ Radio San Miguel, 103.3 FM or 1280 AM, Saturdays at 12:15pm. We play the best danzones and keep you informed about our activities. Music is an international language.
Muchísimas gracias for hanging in there with us, we hope to see you soon.
