Support the 2016 Tour of Buddhist Monks
By Suzanne Ludekens
In May of this year, when Nepal was devastated by earthquakes, sanmiguelenses sent generous assistance to the monks of the Samtenling Monastery. The financial support for the monks, friends who for many years have visited San Miguel and other cities in Mexico, allowed them to offer refuge, food, and medical help to many children and families. Yet to continue their work in the community, the monks must look outside Nepal for financial assistance.

A group of volunteers coordinated by Eloina Capdevielle, Laura Aguilar, and Alicia Mayo are planning a fundraising visit by the monks for January or February of 2016. The visit, called El Tour de Bendiciones (The Tour of Blessings) will bring the Samtenling Monastery Master and four monks to San Miguel for two weeks of Buddhist ceremonies, lectures, and pujas.
The first fund-raising activity is Saturday, November 7. A light supper with a live Skype call with monastery director Samten will be held at Alicia Mayo’s home. There are many fundraising activities to be planned and organized. Ideas and volunteers are most welcome. The greatest contributions at this moment, however, are benefactors for the monks’ transport. Actually, without sponsorship for the flights, the tour will not be able to proceed. The support group seeks to raise US$7000 to bring the monks to Mexico.
In the last tour in 2012 the monks captured our hearts with beautiful rituals, practical philosophy, playful humor, and exemplary generosity. If you would like to be a benefactor to the 2016 Tour de Bendiciones or make a financial contribution, please call Alicia at 152 0376 (English) or Eloina 415 113 3154 (Spanish).
