Orange Is the New Black

From the SPA

By Joan DiPiero

During the last two seasons, the fashion world announced first that gray was the new black, then came the quite uninspired edict that black was the new black. Making a bold move this season, the fashionistas have declared that orange is now the new black. Not to be confused with prison garb, this newly celebrated color is meant for the feline runway, not the felon walk.

We are pleased to announce our fashion-forward litter of 10-week-old kittens, all in tune with this season’s major fashion trend. For the purist, we have Rusty, with a solid dark cinnamon coat. If you prefer a two-tone version, we have orange and white Creamsicle varieties: Reggie, sister Reba, and a very fuzzy Rascal. If you don’t feel bold enough for these bright colors, may we suggest a pale-peach-colored Lorenzo? Not only subtler in color, he’s a mellow four-year-old, so his subtlety extends to his personality as well. If you are still convinced that black is the only way to go, perhaps you would consider adding a small colorful accessory. Our 10-week-old tortoise girl, Paisley, will satisfy your need for black, but she features coquettishly asymmetrical orange markings. If you care not a tad about trends, you will be reassured that all is not vanity with our featured model cats. All of them are affectionate, playful, and one actually is a Mensa member, but modestly prefers to remain anonymous.

Meet these fashionable cats at the SPA any day, Monday-Saturday, between 11am and 2 pm at Los Pinos 7, 152 1624, and check out photos and bios of all our available cats at www.spasanmiguel.org/adopt-me-cats.

We’d love for you to volunteer (same hours). It´s a lot of fun to sit with cats, kittens, and puppies and great exercise to walk dogs. Try it—you’ll like it!

News Flash: Most, if not all, notarios have extended half price for wills through October. Please think about the SPA when working on estate planning and drafting your will. While we hope you live a long and healthy life, your bequest can make a huge difference to the SPA. Our only source of income is donations, and we run at a loss every month. Bequests of cash, property, land, and other assets of value can allow the SPA to continue its work in serving the community and our animals in need. For more information, please email info@spasanmiguel.org.
