Medical Emergency Preparedness: Travel MedEvac, An Option in Medical Air Evacuation
By Clementina Beas
Are you prepared for a medical emergency? Many of you have attended the seminar “How to Be Prepared for a Medical Emergency,” presented by Peace of Mind in San Miguel de Allende, a community service project dedicated to raising emergency awareness. During these seminars attendees are encouraged to take action by acquiring a plan that protects their health and welfare.
Medical air evacuation plans are designed for people who prefer to be treated back in their home country, where they have Medicare, supplemental health, or Canadian Provincial health coverage.
Travel MedEvac is an air evacuation membership plan offered to Americans and Canadians by a company with its own medically equipped air ambulances including Piaggio 180, Gulfstream III, Chiefton, and Lear Jet aircraft. Travel MedEvac is accredited by EURAMI, the European Aeromedical Institute.
According to Melanie Lansing, Mexico Insurance Advisors, most companies don’t own their own aircraft, they merely bid out their air transport to lesser or non-accredited providers to cut costs. Of the 240 medical air transport companies in the United States, Travel MedEvac is one of only eight EURAMI accredited organizations, says Lansing. Travel MedEvac uses in-house pilots, each with an average of 14,000 flight hours and on-staff ICU-CCU medical teams who have a minimum of five years of air transport service, and their on-site logistics staff also coordinates the emergency transport every step of the way, she adds.
According to Lansing, any member involved in a serious, non-life threatening accident or debilitating illness will qualify for air transport. Annual Mexico flying permits enhance Travel MedEvac’s flight coordination by avoiding wasting precious time obtaining one per flight.
Travel MedEvac’s founders have more than 25 years in the industry. They represent two longstanding firms: International Insurance Group, LLC (IIG), and Air Ambulance Worldwide, Inc. IIG is the largest international provider of Mexico insurance to travelers and expatriates. If you have traveled to Mexico from the United States or Canada, you most likely have acquired an IIG policy online. Since its inception, Air Ambulance Worldwide has provided 5,000 medical air transports worldwide.
TravelMedEvac is presenting at the Hotel Real de Minas Thursday, October 15, from 10am to 12pm. A light snack will be served after the presentation. Special discounts will be offered on select memberships.
According to Lansing, plans are offered at the best market price with no application fee and have no out-of-pocket costs, or dollar limits.
Reservations are required. Please email Melanie Lansing at email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org, or cell: 415 108 0810.
