Family Fun at the International Hummingbird and Birds of Guanajuato Festival
By Mila Villasana
A great afternoon for families is planned for Sunday, September 27, 1-5pm, at Plaza La Luciérnaga, near the amphitheater, as part of the “Nature in the City” third annual International Hummingbird and Birds of Guanajuato Festival, hosted by Camino Silvestre, El Charco del Ingenio, and Audubon de Mexico.
Sun, Sep 27, 1-5pm
Plaza La Luciérnaga
Come discover with Audubon the amazing world of birds and wonders of nature through fun and educational activities, such as Audubon de Mexico’s “Isn’t that Amazing?” This interactive presentation of fascinating bird facts will awaken children curiosity and love of science and use their imagination through our “be a bird” arts and crafts experience to explore the world of nature through making bird masks, finger puppets, and mobiles. There will also be face painting, Gigantic Jenga Nature Game, and a few more surprises.
For children and adults, there will be information on creating habitats filled with beautiful flowers and wonderful aromas that will attract birds, bees, and butterflies to your garden. Through a special arrangement with Franke’s Vivero, we will have an assortment of plants for sale along with glass hummingbird feeders to help you get started in making a home for nature in the city!
This free event is for the whole family, so spread the word and bring your kids, because they won’t want to miss out on the fun!
A special screening of the film The Big Year will take place at 8pm at the La Luciérnaga amphitheater. This comedy, starring Owen Wilson, Steve Martin, and Jack Black, tells the hilarious story of three overly ambitious and competitive birders who set out to break the record of most birds recorded in the Big Year competition, which takes them on a worldwide adventure. More films will be screened on Monday and Tuesday nights at Plaza La Luciérnaga. For this and other family-oriented events, including Saturday’s International Migratory Bird Day activities and Sunday’s holistic activities taking place at El Charco del Ingenio Botanical Garden, check the Hummingbird Festival schedule.
