Donate a Book to La Biblioteca
By Karen Ocampo
Reading for pleasure is something that should be transmitted and inspired. Stimulation comes from the stories of people who are passionate about reading or just seeing them immersed in a book. Although it is expected that the love of reading is instilled at home or in school, places where word lovers congregate, like a library, are a very effective areas to really spread this taste.
The statistics overwhelm. According to the Encuesta Nacional del Libro (National Survey of the Book), reading habits in Mexico do not advance much. While 2.6 books a year were read in 2006, in 2014 the figure reached 2.94 books per year. Another surprising fact is that now less than half of the population of Mexico admits keeping this habit.
La Biblioteca currently calls for action, asking for donations of books en español. Although the institution has long provided to maintain a collection of books in both English and Spanish, it invites the public to donate books in Spanish.
The procedure is quite simple. Just pick books rich in content and in excellent condition (e.g. with all the pages and without fungi), and bring them to the library`s reception area at Insurgentes 25. If you have a large donation and cannot move it by yourself, you can call 152 0293. Someone will pick it up.
