The Galleries Will be Open
By Edward Swift
Gallery 8A in Fábrica la Aurora will celebrate the September 5 Art Walk with new ceramics by Blanca García and Edina Sagert and new paintings by Ingrid Rosas, Patricia de la Parra, Edina Sagert, and Jim Corcoran. Formerly of Galería O.M.O., Jim Corcoran will exhibit whimsical portraits influenced by Alfredo Castañeda.
Sat, Sep 5, 5-7pm
Fábrica la Aurora
I will display the last of my series of papier-mâché figures 10 to 18 inches tall; some are painted, others are in their natural state. In the future I will not make this type of sculpture. It’s time to move on to other materials and other designs.
Some of the figures on display have holes in their stomachs representing a hunger for more than just food. Most are sexless although a few have genitalia or what may suggest genitalia. They all have dismayed and lost expressions but don’t seem to be particularly unhappy, just bewildered. I think of them as the kind of characters one might meet in a play by Beckett, Ionesco, or Pirandello.
The Art Walk will begin at 5pm and continue until 7pm. We hope to see you there. Art Walk, Fábrica la Aurora: all galleries will be open.
