Learn about CASA at Rotary Tuesday
By Robin Loving Rowland
Elsbeth Friedly, president of CASA, the Center for Adolescents of San Miguel de Allende, will present CASA’s programs at the Rotary Club of San Miguel de Allende – Midday. CASA’s mission is to improve the quality of life for Mexico’s most vulnerable communities by empowering youth to make a positive impact in their lives and the lives of those who surround them through employment and education opportunities. To create change, you have to start with the youth, say CASA spokespeople.

Santa Julia 15
Colonia Santa Julia
CASA’s programs include youth outreach, professional midwifery and early childhood development programs, including employment and education, sexual reproductive health, primary health care, and violence prevention. One of CASA’s mantras is Teaching others to Teach, which has enabled hundreds who, in turn, have affected the lives of thousands.
CASA reaches beyond the borders of the state, impacting policy at the national level. In fact, CASA created Mexico’s first government-approved midwifery school, which has been cited as meeting international criteria for effective replication in countries worldwide.
Rotary Midday has been improving the lives of less fortunate San Miguelenses for 10 years, including the investment of more than a million dollars in libraries, children’s homes, Casita Linda homes, health care, water harvesting, computers for schools, water testing, daycares, diabetic eye care, fire trucks, children’s programs, ecological stoves for campesinos, and help for children with special needs.
Rotary will celebrate its tenth annivesary Saturday, September 12, with a garden party that will feature a pool, food, drinks, games, massages, facials, pedicures, and more. For more information, contact 415 101 3149 or 415 125 6328.
Rotary unites neighbors, community leaders, and global citizens for the common good. The talk will take place Tuesday, September 8, at 12:30pm at CASA, Santa Julia 15 in Colonia Santa Julia. The presentation will be in English and will be free. Free parking will be available.
