Casita Linda: Noche de Capilla

By Bere Parra

A secret as extraordinary as the Hacienda Santa Clara Center for Texas A&M University rarely stays secret for long. In collaboration with Universidad de Guanajuato, the historic Hacienda Santa Clara houses study – abroad programs for Texas A&M University students. The landmark property, which is usually not open to the public, is the chosen venue for the Casita Linda fourth annual Spirit of Hope Gala, “Noche de Capilla.” The gala will take place on October 10 at 6pm.

About 160 years old, Hacienda Santa Clara has been impeccably restored and upgraded, manifesting the vision of Pablo and Bárbara Marvin (Directors of the Hacienda Santa Clara Center for Texas A&M University) with the participation of renowned architect and Hollywood set designer Theresa Walker. Mr. Marvin has opened opened up many similar centers around the world, his enthusiasm and dedication to Hacienda Santa Clara are evident from the moment one enters the property. The picturesque location incorporates impressive local craftsmanship in a distinctive Mexican flavor—The woodwork and ironwork featured throughout Hacienda Santa Clara are made at the workshops housed within the hacienda. The landscaping is completely respectful of the area’s typical flora.

The Hacienda Santa Clara Center for Texas A&M University has been receiving groups of students since October, 2014. As of May this year, there were about 20 different academic programs lined up until the end of 2015. By 2016, the academic schedule of Hacienda Santa Clara will be in full operation. Once completed, the dorm room facilities will be able to house up to 500 students. Hacienda Santa Clara features Wi-Fi throughout the grounds and premises, and it will have a fully equipped academic research library. Entertainment spaces (such as pool and ping pong tables, a cafeteria, and more) and an excellent art collection are only two more of the characteristics that make Hacienda Santa Clara exceptional.

Casita Linda is privileged to have the use of this campus for this evening thanks to the generosity of Pablo and Bárbara Marvin, Texas A&M University, and the Universidad de Guanajuato. This year’s Spirit of Hope Gala will be a rare opportunity to experience cultural enrichment and soak in the beauty of the spectacular gated grounds of a landmark property that represents a new approach to collaborative education between two of the most prestigious academic institutions of the United States and Mexico, respectively. Gala attendees will dine and dance in the magnificent capilla (chapel) and will be able to explore the beautiful gardens and exquisite patios (over 1.7 million bricks went into their construction) under a pristine country sky full of stars. Please save the date! It will be an evening to remember, in honor of an extremely noble cause: to build homes for the poorest of the poor in San Miguel de Allende.

Tickets to the gala are US$150 per person and include round trip champagne bus transportation. Tickets are now available at La Conexión on Aldama. For more information on the event and the spectacular vacation packages that will be auctioned off that night, please visit
