Danzón for El Sindicato
By Leonardo Rosen
San Miguel de Allende is fortunate to have El Sindicato, Alternative Arts Center. For almost 20 years this non-governmental center has explored world culture while maintaining its strong commitment to Mexican culture. In this special place, children and adults can study a great variety of artistic expressions (ballet, classical piano, voice, creative writing, modern dance, jazz dance, circus, salsa, electronic music, theater, danzón, and much more). Also, in its auditorium, El Sindicato presents high quality performances of artistic works that reflect its open and progressive thinking. Everybody is welcome here.
Sat, Aug 8, 8pm
The word sindicato means labor union; in other times the building occupied by El Sindicato was the union hall of the textile workers of Fábrica la Aurora. In their honor and memory, the name is still used.
I have known El Sindicato for 18 and a half years. The Club de Danzón Mercerina has given classes there for nine years. We are certainly part of the El Sindicato family, it is our home. This is our motive for presenting an event to benefit this unique cultural institution.
Dear friends, we invite you to join us for “El Danzón y Otros Ritmos Bailables con el Club Danzón Mercerina” on Saturday August 8, 8pm, at El Sindicato, Recreo 4, in downtown SMA. We ask a contribution of 30 pesos to help support the activities of El Sindicato, especially its programs for children. For more information, please call 152 0131 (El Sindicato) or call me at 154 5840. As we have done in the Jardín Principal for seven years, we will play the best danzón and other Latin music for your dancing pleasure, as well as present special dance exhibitions. As always, you are the stars of this show.
May I share a danzón title with you? Música Para Mi Reina (Music for my Queen).
