A Bright Day

By Sandra Ríos

To take advantage of these sunny days, what’s better than breakfast outdoors surrounded by lush vegetation? For this we suggest you go early to the thermal waters of La Gruta, where you can enjoy some delicious chilaquiles or eggs any style with natural orange juice. Then, to relax and digest, rest on a deck chair with a good book or simply appreciate nature. When you feel ready to take a dip, enter the healthy thermal waters. There are several thermal pools of varying temperatures, and if you want to delve more into the warmth of the water and breathe its mineral salts, go through a tunnel and into the grotto where you’ll find a great stream of water to massage your back.

Upon returning to San Miguel, we suggest you visit Parque Juárez to enjoy its microclimate and its beautiful paths. At one of the exits of this park you’ll find Los Lavaderos, where there is a large source of water for communal clothes-washing, and if you walk up the hill you will find El Chorro, the spring that feeds Los Lavaderos and provides water to the neighborhood. At each step of the climb up the hill, from different perspectives, there are beautiful views. When you get to the top of the hill, you’ll see egrets nesting in the treetops.

Walk along Barranca until you find the famous cantina El Manantial, where you can enjoy a meal of seafood tacos and tostadas. To refresh your palate try a tasty mezcal margarita with ginger or tamarind, or just a cold beer.
