Smile, You Are in San Miguel

By Sandra Ríos

A wonderful staging where dance, poetry, juggling, and clown art was presented masterfully shaped the show “Osmosis” by Selvyn Suruy, performed at the Cultural Center El Sindicato. Suruy, a native of Guatemala, is a psychologist, occupational therapist, and scenic artist with eight years in this artistic endeavor. “I wanted take advantage of the fact that through the senses people can perceive many emotions that are contained in the stories, like the communities that defend their territory, forced by the state, and despite all this violence they have a certain joy to celebrate life. Our revenge is being happy.” said Suruy. Suruy’s work has been presented in our country in places like Chiapas, San Cristobal, Mexico City, Queretaro, Guadalajara, and Cuernavaca. Due to his success in San Miguel de Allende, he may possibly return from Guatemala in November to stand again in El Sindicato. Stay tuned to the programming of this Cultural Center, which is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary.
