Say Hello to Ms. Chips and Starry Stella
From the SPA
By Irene Diamant
I’d like to tell you about two dogs I usually take for a walk when I volunteer at the SPA: Chips and Stella. Slender Chips, just about a year old, is a lady-in-training, getting good street manners. “Sit,” “stay,” “come,” “down,” “leave it,” and “good girl” are meaningful phrases to Chips. A treat always seals the deal! She’s a pleaser with an endearing and engaging personality. And don’t be fooled by her Zorro mask; she’s a lover, not a fighter. She’s also an explorer, interested in everything and everyone. A fast learner, she’s quick to pick up on cues. Our honey-colored beauty is never down, even when your chips are. She’s always where she belongs at your side, loving and cheering you up. She is happiest pleasing you (besides a hot dog, that’s her favorite treat) and giving and receiving affection.
A little over a year and a half ago, Stella and her four puppies (all now adopted) were rescued from starvation or worse. Is there worse? She is what I call a dog’s dog (that makes sense to me; I hope it does to you). Our Stella is curious and lively and eager to please. She easily sits on command and is ready to learn more tricks. When I take Stella for walks, it’s a walk, stop, sniff the flowers, and walk again experience. She’s easy to walk and there is minimal leash pulling. When she’s in the dog run area at the SPA, she is a free soul, running, exploring, and returning to receive a pet. Minutes later, she is at your side dispensing kisses and adoring looks. Although Stella’s “bark is worse than her bite,” she would be a fierce and loyal protector. No intruder would ever think of messing with her! A little over two and a half years old, she’s a star!
Both medium-sized, these dogs are ready to become part of a family. Come and spend some time with them at the SPA, Los Pinos 7, 152 6124, any day, Monday-Saturday, between 11 and 2. While you’re there, please ask about donating to the Pet Food Money Bank. Through the end of July, an anonymous donor has agreed to match every donation to the Pet Food Money Bank up to US$1,500!! Let’s take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to double the contributions in July. All money raised will be applied to the annual cost of feeding our resident animals (about 100 cats and dogs, waiting to be adopted).
