This young brother and sister team of piano virtuosos, who have delighted audiences across Mexico and Spain, hail from Baja California. Omar is 26 years old, and his sister Ivanna is 23. Omar explains that when he and Ivanna were little, they benefited from the various Armenian and Russian piano instructors who emigrated to Baja California.
Both were wrapped up in the magic of the piano and decided to dedicate their lives to the pursuit and betterment of their art. Omar comments, “Whereas other young people our age make time to party, we enjoy practicing together and learning new material.”
In addition to furthering her career as a concert pianist, Ivanna would like to give classes to young students who intend to pursue a similar career in music. Omar, on the other hand, has begun to compose his own material, some pieces of which appear on their first album, recorded recently in Spain.
In addition to presenting pieces from this first recording, Omar and Ivanna will also perform works by popular classical composers. These lovely artists are excited to visit our town and Guanajuato. “We’ve heard so much about it,” says Ivanna, “and the prospect of contributing to this special school makes it all the more rewarding.”
IREE has been educating children for 23 years, providing them with skills to become productive in the community. The school is located at Refugio Sur 11, and welcomes visitors when classes start in September.
Director Cecilia Ibarrola de Escobar noted, “We operate entirely from donations, and I wish to thank all our sponsors, the San Miguel community who consistently support our events, and these wonderful young musicians who have worked us into their busy schedule with such enthusiasm. They are an inspiration to all of us in our efforts.”
