Ojalá Niños Fabulous Auction and More
By Elsmarie Norby
You’re invited to a party! An auction (silent and vocal) with impressive art from an estate, beautiful stained glass pieces by Ojala’s own teens, a sale of other delightful items, music, and goodies…a party! This is your chance to support the exciting tennis camp for 40 Ojalá Niños on July 24-26 at the local sports center, La Deportiva. Our opening party will begin at 5pm on Thursday, July 23, at the lovely hotel Casa Bajio, just a few doors north of the artisans market.

Ojala Niños has been offering free daily year-round classes to over 100 children in the rural community of San Miguel Viejo: classes in arts, music, literacy, health, environment, and social service. It is a legally established non-profit with the great goal of building a community learning center for the whole community that will give access to folks from more remote areas. Imagine…a real library, computer center, more class and gathering spaces, a big kitchen, and bathrooms. San Miguel Viejo is an indigenous Otomí community full of talented, unsung artists and can become a destination for visitors that will lift their spirits and their economy.
This summer we make our first foray into sports, giving kids yet another opportunity to discover their best and feel good about themselves. With the success of this first sports camp, we plan to expand it every year, with your support!
A famous painting by southwest artist Daniel Brennen, featured in the Southwest Art magazine of September 1981, will be auctioned along with many other well-known works. The magazine article goes to the lucky purchaser of this beautiful original painting. We also offer a selection of reproductions of pre-Hispanic pieces.
Join us at the party, have a great time, and know that your presence makes a difference.
