Bazaar of Alternative Design SMA: Festival Edition

Lunática jewerly

By Jade Arroyo

Since 2013 the Bazaar of Alternative Design has been open in our city, showcasing independent art and design space. This project was created to provide a space for the creative effervescence that is happening in Mexico as more and more artists and audiences join the movement to acquire national fashion and design. The Alternative Bazaar is a self-managed organization that promotes fair trade.

Bazaar of Alternative Design
Festival Edition
Sat, Jul 18, and Sun, Jul 19
Ancha de San Antonio 28
(Between Organic Market and Instituto Allende)

In show after show, the bazaar has exhibited dozens of proposals by designers from different parts of Mexico, whether from industry, fashion, graphics, jewelers, musicians, illustrators, photographers, chefs, or plastic artists, who have all shown their work and have sold it without an intermediary.

This ninth bazaar comes as a festival, offering the general public a platform to enjoy music, fashion, food, and urban art, that is emerging in Mexico. There will be a little of everything: a stage that will have DJ Benjamin P, and musicians like the Triciclo band playing live, artisan mescal tastings, circus workshops, organic products, gourmet food, and everything 100 percent Mexican.

And, of course, we include the exhibition and sale of over 70 brands that show us their innovative products, such as Invernalia, sustainable urban greenhouses; utilitarian and recycled housewares of Second Life upcycling; the charming and naive illustrations by Mamika; Shanth Montecillo’s unique pieces of clothing; Snuvyko’s signature jewelry, mixing silver with indigenous textiles; handbags by Árbol de Viento; botanical beauty of Hecho SMA; organic honey and goodies by Gallo Negro; sculptor Manuel Lozano’s artwork; Jade Contemporary Mexican design with huipiles, and many more interesting brands.

We thank the illustrator aka Karina Mosqueda Machuca for our poster design, and our sponsors, “The Union Alternative Culture” cultural center, foundation ETCI, and Text Editor (and contexts) Creative Independents for their support. We invite you to spend a weekend full of creativity. Come with your family and your pets to enjoy the new proposals, gourmet food, live music, and good shopping. Free admission.
