On Saturday, July 11, Audubon de Mexico will host its third Niños y Naturaleza Festival for children and their parents, to be held Parque Juárez. We are seeking volunteers to help make this an unforgettable event for our students and community.

Since September, we have been guiding students at Ignacio Allende, Las Casas, Nueva Senda, and Palo Colorado on a journey through the wonders of nature as viewed through the eyes of a bird. Our goal is to cultivate a generation of young people who are mindful of their role as nature’s guardians by developing their empathy, wonder, and knowledge of the natural world and their ability to make a difference.

Students have taken on a bird identity and used their imaginations to experience what it’s like to be a bird—a parent, an egg, a nestling, and a fledgling preparing to leave the nest. They’ve investigated how birds contribute value to the world and have explored their bird “selves” through creative expression. We completed the year by taking a bird’s-eye view of the amazing web of life and coming in for a closer look at trees, water, and soils, and the contributions they make in promoting life.

The July 11 event continues to explore these themes through nature walks, arts and crafts, games, puppet theater, and dance. Children will share with their families and the community their knowledge and understanding of their role as nature’s guardians by planting a pollinator garden within the park. The garden will serve to attract and provide for birds, butterflies, and bees and educate the public about the endless possibilities for nurturing healthy wildlife habitats in our urban environment while creating beautiful settings for people to enjoy.

We invite you to volunteer for this great day in our city’s signature park and help children celebrate and honor the wonders of nature. We have various volunteer positions and time slots to choose from. Please contact Mila at or 415 111-4518 for more details. Financial assistance is always appreciated too!
