Try the Natural Way in San Miguel
By Sandra Ríos
We recommend you start your day with a tasty, healthy breakfast at the Via Organica restaurant, where most of the products are organic and locally produced. Upstairs you’ll find a small garden and outdoor seating for enjoying your breakfast. We recommend the poached eggs served on a bed of mushrooms, topped with cream and spinach, and green juice made from orange, pineapple, parsley, cucumber, celery, and spinach. Now full of energy to continue with your day, you can arrange a tour right there to go to Vía Organica’s ranch, located in the Membrillo community 20 kilometers from San Miguel. The ranch produces vegetable seeds, eggs, poultry, and pork. Take a guided tour to learn about the farm and see how it works. Then, if you want to take a horseback ride and enjoy the Mexican countryside with a beautiful view of the Picacho mountains, ask there about going on this exciting excursion.

On your return to San Miguel, enjoy walking the cobblestone streets in the center of town. When you reach the corner of Canal and Hernández Macias, try a delicious traditional ice cream cone in your choice of flavors, ranging from rose petal to rice pudding. Then take a walk across town to Parque Juárez to be amazed by its microclimate and beautiful paths. You can relax on one of the benches and appreciate the extensive foliage.
At night, visit one of the oldest cantinas in San Miguel, La Sirena Gorda, to enjoy delicious shrimp, fish, or artichoke tostadas. We recommend a tamarind margarita or a ginger martini to accompany your snack.

Later, if you want to listen to live music, head for Santos Crudoteca, a place visited by local people that has one of the best bands in San Miguel to delight you with rock and blues.
