To Rod with Love
By Luis Gasca
Henry and Nun Scholl will have a memorial gathering for their wonderful daughter, Rod Molot, who died recently. Rod was born and raised in Thailand and moved to San Antonio, Texas, before settling in San Miguel de Allende several years ago.
To Rod with Love
Fri, Jul 3, 6pm
Orquídea Underground Thai Restaurant
She was the chef and owner of Orquídea Thai Restaurant. June 30, 2015 would have been her 38th birthday as well as the first year-anniversary of Orquídea Underground.
I asked her mother, who is a classy and wonderful lady from Thailand, why she decided to keep Orquídea open to the public, and she answered, “Because if Orquídea closes, the people that worked so hard with Rod to make this an outstanding restaurant would otherwise be unemployed.”
The delightful staff that has given San Miguel de Allende another unique restaurant—in this case with great Thai food—are my friends. The staff includes Orquídea manager, Jorge Almaraz, Vanessa, and Benz, the young lady chef from Thailand.
Because Rod passed away so quickly and unexpectedly, many of us did not get the opportunity to pay our respects. Anyone interested in saying a few words about Rod is welcome to share during this musical celebration in which I am happy to participate, along with Cuban pianist Gabriel Hernández and my lovely wife, Janice Honeycutt.
We hope to see all Rod’s friends, who loved and appreciated her, at the memorial gathering on Friday, July the 3, 6pm, at Zacateros 83B, the location of Orquídea Underground.
Seating is limited; please make a reservation to 415 150-7606 at your earliest convenience. Note: there is no cover charge. We hope to see you there.
Rod’s humor, love, friendship, and unselfishness will be deeply missed by me and everyone who knew her.
