Muros en Blanco Celebrated Its Third Year
By Sandra Ríos
Muros en Blanco, the urban art project that presents the best graffiti artists, took place at Colonia Guadalupe from June 18 to 21.
Colleen Sorenson managed to legalize graffiti in San Miguel and began Muros en Blanco as a community initiative two years ago. Colonia Guadalupe was designated as the Guadalupe Art District for the first festival, which involved several artists from San Miguel who produced their creative designs on various walls in the neighborhood. After two years, Sorenson invited Graffiti World, a company headed by Jan Roth, to participate. Graffiti World is dedicated to the production of graffiti and high-level urban art and to the discovery of new Mexican talent as well as international talent to paint and give workshops. Now that Graffiti World is present at the Muros en Blanco Festival for the first time, the company is in charge of the direction of logistics, the selection of artists, and getting sponsorships. Sorenson arranged permission and community participation to choose the walls. Nueve Arte Urbano from Querétaro also joined this alliance. This year, the participating artists were Chunga SF from Aguascalientes; Meik from San Juan del Rio; Skat from Monterrey; Hass Expression from Cancun; Neo, Mr. Skelleton, and Mocre from Mexico City; and Lelo and Irving Cano from Chiquitraka Collective.
