George Gershwin and Jazz Standards

Antonio Cabrero

By Robbie Martin

Maestro Antonio Cabrero comes back to San Miguel with a program that combines the best of George Gershwin with the best of jazz standards. The music by Gershwin will include selections from Porgy and Bess and the immortal “Rhapsody in Blue.”

Piano Solo Concert
Mtro. Antonio Cabrero
Sat, Jun 27, 6pm
Teatro Ángela Peralta
VIP 350 pesos, general 200 pesos
Tickets at la Biblioteca or
Teatro Ángela Peralta

The jazz standards part of the program will include “Body and Soul,” “You Go to My Head,” “Everything You Are,” “Serenade in Blue,” “Moonglow,” “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” “I’m Getting Sentimental Over You,” “Tenderly,” and Gershwin’s own “Embraceable You” and “A Foggy Day,” with arrangements by Antonio Cabrero.

This is the first concert appearance of Cabrero in San Miguel since being appointed Coordinator General and Sub-Director of Guanajuato Symphony Orchestra.

Because of this recent appointment, Maestro Cabrero has now taken up residence in Guanajuato, the state capital, but he has promised to make every effort to continue bringing the outstanding performances of San Miguel International Symphony to San Miguel.

Although it isn’t likely that we will have solo piano concerts with Antonio in the near future, it does seem that San Miguel will keep its own International Symphony Orchestra alive and receive periodical visits from the Guanajuato Symphony in some sort of symphonic revival for San Miguel under his baton.
