Is cinema an art or a game? Why do we love to see it and also to make it?
Cinema is the art of telling stories with images, playing with life, playing with reality. Maybe because it is a game, it really fits young people.
Seven years ago, invited by GIFF, we began the first workshop-course of cinema for the youth in San Miguel de Allende. The young film makers in action produced a short film, Francisca y la muerte, which later won several prizes in national and international festivals. Since then, every summer in Querétaro, in our production house “doraguzman arte en video,” youns people train with 10 experts in different areas of filmmaking and may later help to make their own short films.
Now we have returned to San Miguel in association with the Instituto Allende, Centro Cultural Allende, Coyote Canyon Adventures, and Cinemex. The young filmmakers, ages 10 to 22, will learn from experts in cinema during the first week. They will learn script, storyboards, makeup, camera use, still film, behind cameras, acting, music support, and camera direction.
In the second week, they will produce a short film, shot at the pyramid of La Cañada de la Virgen, hills, ravines, dams, rivers, and streets in San Miguel. All participants will act and also have production participation as a crew member.
In the film, a group of young filmmakers prepare a documentary of the pyramid La Cañada de la Virgen. When they first start the production they never imagined the adventure they will encounter or the actors from other times such as the Jerarca and the Warrior Girl. A trip of 13 levels to the underworld, they discover the lost treasure of the house of the 13 heavens.
If you wish to be one of these young filmmakers or support one of them, ask for more information at 045 442 186-7312 or at the Centro Cultural Allende 415 152-0929.
Don’t miss the opportunity to be a “filmaker in action” this summer!
