By Colleen Sorenson

Street Art and Urban Muralism have become the most visible explosion of artistic expression, taking to the streets all over the world. This is Public Art.

Calle Canción India
Colonia Guadalupe

Muros en Blanco 2015 is “taking it to the streets” along the entirety of Calle Canción India in Colonia Guadalupe Distrito de Arte, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 19 to 21.

Ten of the best artists from all around Mexico will exhibit their skills on the walls and conducting workshops for our local young artists.

Visiting artists include Chunga SF (Aguascalientes), N3O (DF), WINA (Veracruz), Meik (DF), Mocre (DF), Raul Urias (Chihuahua), Colectivo Chiquitraka (Oaxaca), Mr Skelleton (DF), Eskat (Monterrey), and Lelo Huez (Oaxaca).

Painting begins at 3pm, Friday, June 19. Numerous artists will show their work of small pieces at a reception hosted by The Restaurant on Sollano 16 on Friday evening. Come meet the artists!

Ongoing workshops and seminars for young people will be held on the grounds of Geek & Coffee, Fabrica la Aurora, Saturday and Sunday, June 20 and 21. These include discussions with the artists and demonstrations about technique and style. Also a part of the program is the Youth Mural, sponsored by Sanmiguelenses Unidos.

This year, Muros en Blanco is pleased to be joined by Graffitiworld (San Miguel and Mexico City) and Osel Paint (Querétaro). Graffitiworld, engaged in the promotion of Public Art, has more than 126,000 followers in social networks and links to the most important specialized media in the world of Street Art. They represent local, national, and international artists.

For those interested in music, dance, performance art, and yoga, there will be an open stage at the corners of Tato Nacho and Canción India. Come “do your thing” and feel welcome to promote your activities.

Experience the continuing progress of the walls throughout the weekend with the dedication at 4pm on Sunday. And please remember to bring your cameras!
