International Aikido Camp Inaugurated in San Miguel
By Ken Rowland
San Miguel hosted another first, an international Aikido Spring Camp featuring two of the best instructors in the world: Shihan (master teachers) Peter Bernath and Donavan Waite, both seventh-degree black belts, as well as fifth-degree black belt Damir Jamsek. Several high ranking chief instructors of Aikdo schools from various cities in Mexico attended, agreeing that it was a unique experience for Aikido in Mexico to have two Shihan teaching in a three-day camp. Attendees included 80 people from the US, Mexico, Russia, Canada, and other countries. Because of the great satisfaction of all who came, it is anticipated that the camp will be repeated at Rancho Las Sabinas each year.
In addition to Aikido (a Japanese defensive martial art), traditional Japanese archery, kyudo, was demonstrated by Sensei Ali Zolfagharian, fifth-degree black belt, and members of Kyudo Kai Mexico.
Aikido San Miguel hosted the event with co-sponsors boutique Hotel Casa Correo and event center Rancho Las Sabinas.
