Greater Tuna Comes to San Miguel de Allende
By David Johanssen
Greater Tuna is a big comedy about a small town, small minds, and big hearts. Set in the fictional, yet typical small town of Tuna, Texas, “where the Lions Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies,” Tuna is rife with a wide-range of colorful characters and storylines. The play is an affectionate comment on small-town Southern life, but also a withering satire of it. Written by Joe Sears, Jaston Williams, and Ed Howard, it is one of the most popular plays ever produced. Tuna ran for 30 years all over the world. Due to its overwhelming popularity, Greater Tuna is now playing in San Miguel de Allende at Shelter Theater.

Starring in the San Miguel production will be “The Palm’s” entertainment director, Tracy Parks, and Chaz Weathers, a San Diego-based entertainer known for his sharp comedic timing and spot-on character portrayals.
The two actors play a total of 20 characters — men, women, and animals — with 42 costume changes. Tracy Parks and Chaz Weathers have had their work cut out for them in this labor of love. “It has been a dream of ours for many years to play these characters, and we are thrilled that so many people are enjoying it just as much as we are!” said Tracy Parks, who plays Aunt Pearl, along with a host of others in the production. Audiences are raving about Tuna and reviews have been excellent, with some folks returning for a second and even a third time to see it.
The show runs June 11-14 and June 18-21, Thursday through Saturday at 7pm and Sundays at 5pm. Tickets for this show have already starting selling swiftly so get your tickets now, at Shelter Theater or online! Tickets are also available at the library. 180 pesos.
