SMART Festival Returns

The fourth edition of SMART + DESIGN Festival will be held on May 29, 30, and 31 in San Miguel for the pleasure of people who enjoy art and design. This year they will be at the streets of Aldama, Correo, Recreo, Relox, Quebrada, and Chiquitos, and the artists who will participate will include Betsabé Romero, Boris Viskin, Juan Carlos Mendoza, Pedro Friedeberg, Miguel Castro Leñero, and others. The project consists of upholstering the walls of the city with vinyl reproductions of photographic quality with designs created by artists. This initiative is to bring art to the people and will last about a month on display. They will also exhibit three monumental sculptures in the Jardín principal; one by Pedro Friedeberg and the other by Miguel Castro Leñero.
The festival begins the Friday, May 29, at 7pm. That same day, the restaurant Moxi will have a special menu of seafood costing 450 pesos, including mimosas and beer, from 1pm to 6pm. The Aperi restaurant also will have a special menu of 900 pesos and 1,350 pesos with wine.
Saturday from 10am to 10pm and Sunday from 10am to 6pm at Reloj 18 is the Fair La Lonja MX, a market focused on Mexican design, with more than 40 exhibitors. Also on Saturday at 10:30pm there will be a DJ party in the Hotel Matilda at a cost of 500 pesos, which includes open bar all night. Tickets are on sale at the Hotel Matilda, Cumpanio, and Dos Casas.
Hotel Matilda, Dos Casas, and L’Otel, organizers of this event, anticipate attracting more people this year with exhibitors of La Lonja expecting about 2,000 visitors. Their bet is basically to bring art to the streets of San Miguel, sharing the best of its artists. This festival has already positioned itself as one of the most important in the world by the New York Times which cataloged it last year as one of the 10 art festivals to visit worldwide.
