Star in Your Own Cat Video

From the SPA

By Helen Hatton

Come on, admit it—you love the occasional or more—cat videos! Well, who among us doesn’t, for they are captivating, hilarious and, of course, adorable. Now just imagine finding yourself in the middle of one, directing your very own constantly moving pussycat show. Heaven? For cat lovers it most certainly is, and it’s available free and at your convenience at the SPA.

Volunteers spend time each day “socializing” resident cats and kittens which helps their transition to private homes. We comfort, reassure, pet, and play; we have toys and tubes and climbing posts and for a super treat, the occasional snort of catnip! There are snug beds for a quiet nap and always patches of sun on the porch for a little rest.

It’s fascinating to watch the different feline personalities interact with each other and with humans. Cleo, a small, wiry, brown tabby is such a tomboy and loves to wrestle and pounce with the guys. Martin is a handsome older male who fights off the attentions of a much younger female, rather like a staid senior executive trying to avoid the pretty new assistant hoping to advance her career! Jacaranda is shy and still worried; Iggy likes to sleep in the top bunk away from the noise and the rambunctious teenage orange cats, Harry and Georgie, who tear about chasing each other or their own tails. Handsome black and white Smirnoff tends to stay up top and survey the happy chaos. They love, they pounce, they purr, and best of all, they’re safe and cared for here at the SPA.

As the old line goes, “Dogs have owners, cats have staff!” How lucky we are to be staffers! You, too, can become one. SPA volunteer hours are Monday-Saturday between 11am and 2pm at Los Pinos 7, 152 6124. If you’d like a preview of the stars you’re going to meet, look at the SPA’s website of cats available for adoption——the Adopt Me! (cats) pages.

While you’re on the website, please go to the Pet Food Money Bank page. It’s under the How to Help tab—the first choice. The SPA is trying to raise funds toward the cost of feeding all their resident animals. Please click on the Donate button and help them reach their goal! And then spread the word to get others to donate. It’s a worthy cause!
