SPA Pets of the Month – May 2015

By Lynn Weisberg and Joan DiPiero

Our highlighted cats, Licorice and Linus, brothers just over one year old, were lovingly fostered along with their littermates and feral mom for several weeks. When they were brought back to us, we were stunned by their appearance. Licorice and the others were about the same weight, but Linus was less than half their size. We were concerned about his health; so once again, Linus was fostered, this time by our volunteer Sandi.

After several weeks of special attention, Linus was coming along fine and when reunited with Licorice, they immediately recognized each other. After their other littermates were adopted, these bushy black long-haired bros were easily distinguished: big Licorice and little Linus. Fast forward several months and, amazingly, they are now the same size. They are very bonded to each other, snuggling and taking turns lovingly nuzzling each other. Easygoing and sweet, they are low-maintenance cats, and we are waiting for that special home where they can be adopted together.

Chips and Cassie are our featured dogs this month. Chips, a young, small/medium-sized female, is a fast learner. She is initially cautious when meeting new people, but she responds quickly when given a treat and a pat on the head. She is now 10 months old and is participating in an obedience class where she is becoming a star! She gets along well with other dogs and absolutely loves to invite other dogs to chase her.

Cassie has been at the SPA since 2012 and is now about 3-1/2 years old. When one enters her cage, she rolls over for a tummy rub, and then tries to bestow kisses on her visitor. She would do best as an only dog as she wants lots of affection, and she will return it in spades! She is a lovely dog, ready and willing to be someone’s protector and best friend forever.
