The Power of Forgiveness

By Jon Sievert

The Rev. Louise Green speaks of the power of forgiveness at this week’s Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Service. Forgiveness has the power to set the heart free, yet it requires a prior process of letting go. It can be quite challenging to do the work that results in change, particularly where resentment has built up over time. What moves us to release the deep anger or hurt binding us to people or situations? When we move to let go, new opportunities arise, and we create more ease in living, resulting in what we might term grace. A Unitarian Universalist exploration of grace visits concepts from the Judeo-Christian tradition and some new territory. This sermon will include a concept from the ancient Indian Yoga Sutras by Patanjali.
