The Third Annual Seed Festival
By Griffin Klement
On Saturday, April 25, we will celebrate the Third Annual Seed Festival, organized by Vía Orgánica in collaboration with the San Miguel de Allende municipality. Any farmer, gardener, family, or member of the general public interested in starting a vegetable garden is welcome to attend.
Sat, Apr 25, 9am-5pm
Margarito Ledesma 2
There will be several seed saving workshops, along with special guest speakers and presentations related to seed conservation at a local level. There will be free seeds for starting your own garden, activities for children, music, theater, and much more.
This festival is about conserving our culture and traditions, from the distinctive flavors of our cuisine to family unity, healthy lifestyles, and the recovery of our ancestors’ traditional knowledge of medicinal plants. It will encourage us to care for the environment and everything that grows in the soil, the fruits and roots that feed us and that begin with a single seed. This will be a celebration of the life and abundance of our soil.
Activity: “Touring Vía Orgánica’s urban garden”
Workshop: “Circle of Life: Seed Production and Saving”
Panels with special guests speaking about corn in Mexico, fair trade, and other topics
For children: Seed bombs and seed art
Play: Our Seeds
Live music, dancing, local artists, and more
