100 Women Who Care Meets April 20
By Susan Page
The organization 100 Women Who Care will hold its next meeting on April 20 at the Rosewood Hotel. This remarkable organization, now in its second year, has already raised 509,590 pesos for San Miguel nonprofit organizations that serve poor communities around San Miguel. We have helped to provide scholarships for high school students, free day care for the children of working mothers, purified water for rural communities previously drinking contaminated water, support for our local orphanage, and environmental education for rural children. We encourage you to join us! You need to give only four hours a year!

All women are welcome
Organizations that have received grants from 100 Women Who Care include the Rural Education Institute of Mexico, Centro Infantil, ALMA, Casa Hogar, CATIS, Casa de los Ángeles, and Mujeres en Cambio. We welcome new nominations at every meeting. Any member may nominate an organization.
Does our work require a large board of directors, an expensive staff, or costly administrative expenses? None of that! Raising this money could not be simpler. Here is how it works. We meet four times a year for one hour each time. At each meeting, several non-profit organizations are nominated. Three are drawn out of a hat. We hear a short presentation on each of the three, and then we vote. Each woman (or team of women) has pledged to donate 1,000 pesos to the winning organization. When we achieve our goal of 100 women, we will raise 100,000 pesos for one of San Miguel’s hard working nonprofits, offering this to a different nonprofit four times each year.
To join this heartwarming group of women, all you have to do is show up at a meeting, sign a pledge agreement, and then attend every meeting if you are in town. If you cannot attend a meeting, you must leave your donation before the meeting at any La Conexion location addressed to Susan Page, Box 549.
You may join as an individual, pledging 1,000 pesos four times a year. Or, you may join as a team of two people who together pledge this amount. When it comes to voting for the winning nonprofit each time, there is one vote per 1,000 pesos donation, so each team must first agree and then cast only one vote.
We invite all women who care to attend the meeting on Monday, April 20, at the Rosewood Hotel. We are grateful to the Rosewood for their admirable community spirit in donating the space for our meeting. You are invited to arrive at 3:30pm for no-host cocktails and a chance to mix and mingle. Joining (for new members) and signing in with your donation begins at 4:30pm. The meeting will begin promptly at 5pm and will end by 6pm. Even if you are not sure you want to join, you are invited to the meeting to see us in action.
