LGBT news in Puerto Vallarta
Vallarta Pride, Puerto Vallarta’s annual LGBT celebration, will take place May 17–25 with the Pride Parade taking place on May 23. The 2015 theme is UNITY. As one of Mexico’s top Pride events, the seven-day festival attracts visitors from across the globe. Its numerous activities include music festivals, beach parties, fashion shows, a mass commitment ceremony, and activities in participating bars and clubs.
The Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board has partnered with Out magazine, Instinct magazine, and Gaytravel.com to promote the destination’s various offerings for the LGBT market. One of Mexico’s most popular beach destinations for the LGBT community, Puerto Vallarta is the only seaside resort with a gayborhood in its Zona Romántica, home to over 70 businesses that are LGBT-owned and/or target LGBT customers.
Volaris launches Guadalajara flights to Houston and New York City
Volaris inaugurated new international service between the cities of Guadalajara and Houston with flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. According to the Pew Research Center, Houston has a Hispanic population of over two million people, of whom 50 percent are of Mexican origin.
Houston became the second destination operated by Volaris to the state of Texas, after its nonstop service to San Antonio. Nonstop flights to Dallas will be added starting April 29.
The low cost Mexican airline also announced that it will launch nonstop service between Guadalajara and New York City’s JFK airport beginning July 15. The direct service will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, with the inaugural fare starting at US$204.
Guadalajara International Airport is one of the airline’s four hubs. The carrier currently operates 20 international flights and 18 domestic flights from the airport, which is considered Mexico’s third busiest behind Mexico City and Cancún.
