Devotion Is Just Around the Corner
From the SPA
By Megan Gabel
Susie arrived at the SPA in 2011, just in time to deliver nine puppies that night. Judging by the scars on her sweet face, she had a rough time before finding us. She was a super mom but, contrary to most mother dogs, after she finished nursing, Susie wasn’t done with mothering. She actually climbed the fence in Puppy World to be with her weaned babies. Her love of puppies continues. While she is not good with most adult dogs, she is happy to be the chaperone to our younger dogs when they are in the exercise area. With our volunteers, she’s a hugger and requires affection before she is ready to go for a walk. She also likes to catch treats on the fly, rising to the challenge of a bad toss. Medium-large, stocky, and almost five-and-a-half years old, Susie is a very smart, strong, and loving dog who will be your protector as well as your friend.
Precious will be devoted to you if you give her a chance. She was living on the streets, cared for by a Good Samaritan who named her. She’s been at the SPA since May 2013. Although she is calm as she waits for her turn for a walk, the minute she sees that it’s her time, she’s excited and ready to go. She is very friendly; and full of kisses for people (she does a very good ear-cleaning job). She likes to sit and stare at the vista when she’s taken to the top of a hill on her walk. She is very alert and observant. Now almost five years old, she is just waiting for the opportunity to show someone how much she can care.
Susie and Precious are both escape artists (Susie can climb fences), so a secure, walled home is best for them. It takes a while for both of these discerning girls to warm up to strangers, but once they do, it’s magic. Don’t expect love at first sight, but do know that the love they finally will give you will be worth the wait.
Meet Susie and Precious at the SPA, any day, Monday-Saturday, between 11am and 2pm (Los Pinos 7, 152 6124). Watch their videos and learn about our other available dogs on the Adopt Me! (Dogs) page of www.spasanmiguel.org. We look forward to your visit.
