World Autism Day
By Rocio Puig
Since April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day, it is important to know that here in San Miguel de Allende there is an Association of Parents of Children with Autism that gathers families touched by this neurological disorder that affects one in every 89 births. This group is in charge of raising funds for other parents who need financial assistance to diagnose and give therapy to their children with autism. Among the events that they organize are monthly garage sales, the sale of bookmarks made by a mother who is part of the association and who has a printing business, and the healthy food sale at La Pulga every month. They have also put together free-of-charge autism awareness talks for the general public and they have participated at NGO events. The Association of Parents of Children with Autism is on Facebook at www.facebook/autismosanmiguel, and their email address is email@example.com.
