Spice Up Your Life and Your Floral Arrangements
By Terri Peterson
Who says every table top arrangement has to be made of flowers alone? San Miguel’s Garden Club members say, “Be creative, mix it up!” Why not add some fruits or vegetables, driftwood, or even spices? Anything green goes. Our unique exhibit this year, “Flores y Frutas Mixta,” will display extraordinary combinations in the Della Robbia spirit. Edible arrangements, you ask? Well, probably not, but surely a feast for the eyes. The beautiful rooftop setting of Trinitate, with views of San Miguel both near and far, is this year’s venue for an event you won’t want to miss. Vivero Franke’s Garden Center has kindly donated an array of potted plants to further enhance our display of close to 50 gorgeous table top arrangements.

Our event is, of course, free and this year we’ve added floral arranging demonstrations in both Spanish and English. At noon, our Spanish demonstration will be given by Josefina Valle. Owners of El Paraiso, Josefina and her husband have enjoyed a very successful business selling flowers, fruits, and vegetables for 30 years. They have also provided numerous unique arrangements and decorated for fiestas and special events in and around San Miguel. Josefina will be assisted by her daughter, Karina Gutierrez, manager of the Camino Silvestre hummingbird store here in town. Stick around for a different demonstration presented in English. Don’t forget to vote on your favorite arrangement.
Truly a feast for the eyes, our fabulous open house event, “Flores y Frutas Mixta” will take place Saturday, April 11, from 11am to 4pm on the Trinitate Terrace, Cuna de Allende 10. Join club members, friends, and fellow gardeners for an afternoon of beauty and ambiance, San Miguel style.
