Love and Guts, the Fifth Dimension

By Barbara Poole and Annie Hall

Bordello Galería owner Barbara Poole claims that Michael Pedziwiatr’s glass cubes are his attempt to enter the fifth dimension. These cubes, which combine painting and sculpture into a fine blended object metaphor, are sparkling, reflective, and innovative. Inside the glass, viewers look upon found objects juxtaposed to tell stories of life, stories that are fanciful and serious at the same time. They invoke spiritual thinking, social networking, and everyday life in the 21st century in a way that is accessible yet mysterious.

The artist began his artistic pursuits combining sculpture and painting in 1994 at the University of Denver in Colorado, where he studied with renowned sculptor Lawrence Argent.

Pedziwiatr lived in Denver until 1997, where he was an art teacher winning awards and fellowships in the mile-high city. Later, after moving to California, he won fellowship grant money from the city of Ventura and used that money to begin exploration of his cubed sculpture and painting.

His art has been featured in Los Angeles, Denver, Santa Fe, San Francisco, and New York. He is collected in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. He has lived here in San Miguel since 2012 and has developed new insights derived from his Mexican experiences. The current exhibition focuses on his inner exploration beyond the dimensions of space and time. Because of the time and effort working on this exhibition, Pedziwiatr titles it “Love and Guts, the Fifth Dimension.” Come meet the artist and view his work at the Bordello Galería on Saturday, April 11, 6pm to 8pm. The gallery is located at Órganos 19.
