Everything’s Coming up Roses and Radishes, Even Rhubarb
By Terri Peterson
This year our San Miguel Garden Club’s fabulous free flower show, “Flores y Frutas Mixta,” will feature arrangements combining an unusual variety of vegetation grown in our personal gardens, along countryside roads, in orchards, forests, and the desert. We’re mixing things up with fantastic, fun, and phenomenal arrangement combinations incorporating veggies, fruits, flowers, nuts, pine cones, cactus, driftwood, and more.

Enjoy and vote on close to 50 unique arrangements lovingly created by club members. Relax and mix with fellow gardeners, members, friends, and lovers of all things green, artistic, and beautiful. This year’s free venue, open to the public, will take place on the enchanting roof-top terrace of Trinitate, Cuna de Allende 10. In the spirit of della Robbia and a salute to Mexico, “Flores y Frutas Mixta” will feature intriguing table-top arrangements combining a variety of things grown here in town and all over Mexico. Thanks to the generosity of Trinitate, you will experience a taste of San Miguel’s streets from the sky, affording a beautiful view of distant vistas, close cobblestoned calles, and the famous Parroquia. Highlighting this year’s popular event will be two arrangement demonstrations; one at noon in Spanish, the second at 2pm in English. Don’t miss out on this year’s most unique, beautiful, and educational green experience. A special thanks to Vivero Franke’s Garden Center for providing greenery to enhance our exhibit.
The Garden Club of San Miguel was founded in 1968 and has expanded its horticultural education mission to include projects of civic interest both in town and surrounding villages. Projects have included planting shade trees in deprived areas, financial support to PEASMA for environmental education for elementary students, and certification courses to further training of both professional and amateur gardeners in San Miguel and the campo. Our continued efforts support budding gardeners and much needed green growth, be it small personal vegetable gardens or civic squares.
You won’t want to miss out on this year’s popular and free event. Mark your calendars for our exhibit, April 11, 11am-4pm, on the fabulous Trinitate terrace. See you there!
