Concierto en el Campo, Music in the Country!
By Elsmarie Norby
“One of the best events I’ve ever attended in San Miguel!” “This was truly a highlight of our visit to San Miguel!” These are the kind of comments made by folks who have enjoyed these concerts. This Sunday, March 15, at 2pm, you can come to the rural community of San Miguel Viejo, and here’s what you’ll get: free round trip bus transportation from el Centro; a free concert by two marvelous musicians, Josué Cáceres, sax and flute, and Uriel Orozco, piano; and special guest, Frans Bloem, San Miguel’s hottest cabaret artist; a chance to meet local children from the Ojalá Niños education program and their parents; see wonderful art work by them that can be purchased; comfortable sitting in the shade of ancient trees in front of the historic church; a reception with beverages and delicious botanas…these are the delights we can promise you. The rest is what happens on any adventure!
To benefit Ojalá Niños
Sun, Mar 15, 2pm
San Miguel Viejo
Free round-trip bus, Cardo in front of St. Paul’s Church, 1:15pm
Ojalá Niños is a non-profit alternative education opportunity that is free for over 100 children in San Miguel Viejo. Daily afternoon classes include arts, music, literacy, health, and issues about the environment and social justice. We ask for a donation that will go 100 percent to the program, and your pesos or dollars will be matched by a generous Ojalá friend.
The bus will be on calle Cardo across from St. Paul’s Church and will leave at 1:15pm. You will return by 5pm. If you are driving, go straight over the train tracks at the train station west of town, after about ½ mile take the left fork and follow the signs to the church. Please drive slowly and carefully through the community. From the Bodega Aurrera it’s a nice hike. Allow about 40 minutes and wear comfy shoes. There are no bathrooms anywhere near the church. We look forward to seeing you in our village. ¡Bienvenidos a todos! Please visit our wonderful website: www.ojala-ninos.org.
