Experience a Day in San Miguel

By Sandra Ríos

We recommend indulging in a sumptuous breakfast at the Andanza restaurant in the Hotel Casa de Sierra Nevada, a classy place with colonial style. Listed as one of the best restaurants in Mexico, its long list of accolades and awards includes the Distinctive H, AAA Four Diamond, the Dirona award, and AAHS International Five Star Diamond Award. All its breakfasts include a basket of freshly baked bread, butter, and jam. We recommend the omelet stuffed with steak and Mexican mole sauce.

After breakfast, take a ride on an ATV. This is a great way to learn something of the history of San Miguel de Allende by moving through the historic streets and viewing the colonial architecture. Then you can go by rural roads to discover beautiful landscapes and scenic views. The itinerary starts at the hand of an expert who will guide you to downtown San Miguel de Allende and its streets, churches, and major parks. Then you will head for San Miguel Viejo and its chapel (founded in 1542) and next visit La Presa Allende and its surroundings area.

On your return, if you want to eat one of the best burgers in town, the perfect site is La Burger, a place with a unique style. La Burger grills burgers and delicious steaks over a wood fire. They also they serve organic salads, and you can accompany your burger with a good wine from Chile or Argentina or a beer.

For a night of dining and enjoying good music, Hank’s Restaurant, with its New Orleans style, is a tradition in San Miguel. Its kitchen is Cajun-Creole, and its bar specializes in making delicious martinis.
