Calling All Canadians

By Susan Sparrow and Marc Brien

They can chat about favorite subjects; whether dark maple syrup is preferable to light, healthcare, hockey, the best place to learn Spanish, the weather in Moose Jaw, Mexico’s new immigration rules, the best yoga classes and restaurants, the merits of buying versus renting in San Miguel, Canada’s falling dollar, what brings us here and why we love it.

Calling All Canadians
Tue, Mar 3, 5pm-7pm
Lolita Restaurant
Salida a Celaya 52
50 pesos, includes botana

This event, sponsored by San Miguel’s new Canadian Club, will feature a tribute to favorite son the late Toller Cranston, internationally recognized figure skater and artist, who passed away suddenly on January 24 at his San Miguel home.

March 3 is a fitting date for a Canadian party. It commemorates the 140th anniversary of the world’s first indoor hockey game, which was played in Montreal in 1875. The game featured a wooden puck, nine men a side and a fight between the players and the spectators. Anyone fighting at our event will be penalized by having to sing the Star Spangled Banner in both official languages.

Reservations required

Several thousand Canadians are in San Miguel and the 150 places will go fast. Reserve today at: for each person attending, let us know their name, email address, hometown in Canada (past, if now living in San Miguel), and whether they are full or part-time in San Miguel.
