Valentine’s Day Morning

The Meditation Center will hold a Valentine’s Day Morning of Zen on Saturday, February 14. There will be three periods of sitting meditation of 40 minutes, two periods of walking meditation of 20 minutes, and a live dharma talk, “The Heart of Zen Practice,” at 11am, presented by Reirin Alheidis Gumbel, who is currently supporting a Zen program at Mar de Jade, Chacala, Nayarit. Reirin was a resident at San Francisco Zen Center from 2003 until the end of 2014, was ordained as a Soto Zen priest by Furyu Nancy Schroeder in 2007, and was Head Monk in 2012. She held several senior staff positions at Green Gulch Farm, including tenzo and ino (Head of the Kitchen and Head of the Zendo). For one and a half years, she was on the Board of the Marin Interfaith Council. Reirin was mentor for the Coming-of-Age program. She has a special interest in youth and family programs. Prior to her residency at Green Gulch she owned a fiber arts business.

Reirin holds a degree from Johannes Gutenberg Universitaet Mainz in Germany, was a high school teacher for music and English, and completed the Waldorf teacher training at Emerson College in England.
