Don’t Miss the Best Little Bookstore in Mexico!

By Maia Williams

For five days every year, the San Miguel Writers’ Conference runs what is arguably the best English-language bookstore in Mexico, and it is open to the public. Our coffee lounge, small artisan market, lunchtime readings by visiting faculty, and our gala book signing are also open to the public. The bookstore will feature books written by keynote speakers, 50 distinguished faculty members, and Literary Sala members.

The Conference Artisan Market will present vendors selling works of art, jewelry, textiles, and handmade paper items. The Bookstore’s “Lit Lounge” is a convenient coffee bar and lounge area and a great place to soak up the exciting atmosphere of the conference.

Look for the big white tent

Located in a spacious tent behind the Real de Minas Hotel, the Bookstore will be open Thursday, February 12, through Sunday, February 15, from 9am to 6pm.

Book signing gala open to the public

The public is invited to meet Gloria Steinem, Alice Walker, Tracy Chevalier, Richard Blanco, Jane Urquhart, and Ángeles Mastretta to have  books signed at 3pm on Sunday, February 15. Books will be available for purchase in the Bookstore. (Scott Turow will sign books after his keynote address on Thursday, February 12, at 6pm at Hotel Real de Minas.)

Faculty lunchtime readings

On Thursday, Friday, and Sunday from 12:45 to 1:15pm, members of the conference faculty, visiting from all over the US and Canada, will read from their works in the tents behind the Real de Minas Hotel.

FELISMA Book Fair 2015

We are excited to announce that the San Miguel Literary Sala will be working closely with Fundación Cultural Un Chorro de Literatura in co-hosting FELISMA Book Fair 2015, a Spanish-language literary event to take place during the Writers’ Conference in the main Jardín, from 10am to 6pm. Several outdoor book-related activities are planned, including readings and signings by visiting Mexican authors.
