Tribute to Herb Tolpen
By Robin Loving Rowland
Herb Tolpen, who contributed greatly to San Miguel during his many years here, passed away recently, and many of his friends sent tributes to share with his family and his friends.
“Herb was a founding member of SMA Democrats Abroad and active in all of the group’s activities for more than 10 years, most recently serving as parliamentarian. He will be greatly missed.”
“After having supported his late wife Doris in her Rotary work, Herb applied for membership and became a very active member in several areas. His loyalty was absolute, and his engagement vigorous. When he promised something, he delivered it. Having thought about ideas for the future, he would bring them forward. He was always there, ready to assist. He had a fine sense of humor, which is appreciated in most clubs or when people are together. He loved good food, he loved being with people, he loved to serve. Herb will indeed be missed!”
“We met Herb and his wife Doris at the Midday Rotary meetings. We were impressed by their good ‘aura’ that they radiated to all the people they touched, either through talking to them or through their inspirational talks at our meetings. Herb always supported and accompanied Doris. They were a very special couple, each very independent, and both with strong personalities. They were both kind, creative and positive in their actions. They had many dreams for the future. Above all, they had a great love for each other and for their family. Rotary was a center for their activities and friendships. We think we all feel proud to have known them, and we are sure that they were an example of love for each other and for their family.”
