Catnip and Other Pleasures, Dedicated with Great Fondness to the Memory of Toller Cranston
By Donna Parker
When Andrew Osta began pulling this show together, he was hoping for a good turnout and a memorable afternoon with friends, collectors, and new acquaintances. He knew Toller would be there. Toller was always there to offer his support. But on Friday, January 23, 2015, Toller Cranston passed away. Just like that! No warning! No goodbyes… just gone. His death has left a huge void in so many hearts and in San Miguel itself.

We had a small gathering. Laughed, cried, told stories, remembered with love, and drank champagne. We were, and are, in shock. Andrew commented he didn’t really feel like having the show. We understood ⎯ however, as the conversation continued, Andrew expressed an idea we all supported. “I could dedicate the show to Toller!” Heads nodded in agreement.
So, that’s what’s happening. Apart from a large selection of his own work, Andrew is putting together an installation of roughly 100 photos of Toller taken by himself and friends over the years. You can even come and post up your own. Please join us in remembering Toller. He would have wanted to have more than just one tribute, and we can all play a little part to keep his spirit alive. I must warn you, Andrew’s work is easy to love and even easier to collect. I will be there in spirit to support and encourage. As always.
