Every year we look for ways to improve the San Miguel Writer’s Conference experience for participants and guests. This year, on Saturday, February 14, conference participants and the public may choose between taking an in-depth writing workshop, called an Intensive, or spending time exploring magical San Miguel during a group excursion.
We’ve designed our Intensive three-hour workshops to be flexible. Material from the morning will not be repeated in the afternoon, and material in the afternoon will not depend on what was taught in the morning, so that you may choose to work all day with the same instructor or to mix and match.
For descriptions of each Intensive, visit our website, select “Program,” and then select “Saturday Intensives.” Each Intensive costs US$75.
For the “play” option on Saturday, the Conference offers a number of enticing options, including a tour of Agustin Gonzales, a Mexican village of Otomi pyramid descendants, led by photographer and author Charlotte Bell. This tour will give you a rare glimpse into another culture and lifestyle.
Other Saturday excursions include a visit to Atotonilco Church, a World Heritage Site often called “The Sistine Chapel of Mexico,” and to Galería Atotonilco, widely considered to be the finest collection of Mexican Folk Art and country antiques in all of Mexico, in a beautiful country setting and a much-published, architecturally interesting building. Or if you long to kick back and luxuriate, sign up for our bus trip to La Gruta Hot Springs.
Those who prefer to stay in town may take our walking tour of the historic Centro or “elegant homes” tour to see the interiors of a few grand residences in San Miguel.
Thursday, Friday, and Monday excursions
Our very popular Cantina Crawl, a tip of the hat to historic watering holes in San Miguel and the Beat Writers, on Thursday, Feb. 12, and Friday, Feb. 13.
New this year: Cuisine & Conversation on Thursday, Feb 12 after Scott Turow’s keynote address: Gourmet Tapas and Gourmet Burgers. And on Monday, Feb. 16, Maia’s Magical Art, Architecture & Design Tour and Wyman Rousseau’s Nature as Muse: Haiku Walk at El Charco. Excursion costs vary, so be sure to visit our website (http://sanmiguelwritersconference.org) for details and to purchase your tickets.
