Trip to Real de Catorce
By Janice Page
The Lions are off on a trip to San Luis Potosi and the old silver mining town of Real de Catorce, near Matehuala, situated at 9000 feet in the Catorce Mountains. “Real de Catorce has long been a pilgrimage site for local Catholics and Huichol shamanists, and is now being discovered by international tourists drawn by the desert ambiance and reputed spiritual energy.” (Wikipedia.) We will travel by first class bus to San Luis Potosi on Tuesday, February 24, to the Hotel Panorama in San Luis Potosi. The hotel is near the city center and we can see the cathedral, the Plaza de Aranzaza where there is a regional museum with the best exhibit of Huasteca culture, and the sculpture Museum of Silva Federico. On Wednesday, February 25, we will travel to Real de Catorce. Price for a single is 2,650 pesos; 1,950 pesos based on double occupancy. Price includes transportation, hotel, breakfast, and a donation to the Lions club which provides exams and glasses for needy persons as well as diabetes testing. Money will be collected on Thursday, February 5, at the Actinver Bank on San Francisco between 10am and 12pm. Please contact Janice Page by February 3 at firstname.lastname@example.org or 152 5541 for reservations.
