The indexes of high impact crime decreased in the city in 2014, said Mayor Mauricio Trejo during an informative breakfast with some members of the private and civil sectorlast week. It was also advised that newly trained police officers are already patrolling the city. Trejo then commented on new projects for this year.
Some members of the private and civil sector, mainly directors of the local administration, gathered at this breakfast. During the event Trejo remarked that this was the last meeting of the year with those sectors to inform them about security matters. His administration ends on October 9 this year. The security presentation was made by the director of Public Security, Gabriel Arturo Yáñez, while Mayor Trejo made periodic remarks to point out specific information.
On the security matter, Trejo commented that in 2014 there were important achievements: the year closed with zero murders of females and, in addition, high impact crimes decreased. “From 2010 to 2012,” he noted “in the city there were 12 kidnappings, one of them in the historic center. In my administration just one kidnapping has been reported, and it was between Comonfort and San Miguel. This is a proof that this crime is almost eradicated.”
At the meeting, Trejo also highlighted that his administration is working closely with the State Secretariat of Public Security and the State Attorney General’s Office. For that reason, he remarked that in 2013 organized crime members were arrested at colonia San Luis Rey, where narco-graves were also found.
Yáñez Saldaña mentioned that for the past two weeks 38 new police officers have begun patrolling the streets of San Miguel. Eleven of them are women. The police officers had received a 200-hour training course.
Mayor Mauricio Trejo commented that he will keep working with the state and federal government in order to get financial resources to benefit the population. He mentioned that the yellow street lamps will be exchanged for white ones, which will give more light. Finally, he remarked that he will start the process of extending the Libramiento Manuel Zavala Zavala from the Puente Bicentenario to the junction to Dolores, from two to four lanes.
