Upcoming Exhibit at Casa Diana
By Carmen Gutiérrez
The Mexican painter, sculptor, and architect Alberto Lenz has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Mexico, the US, Canada, and Europe, such as Galeria d’Art Zero in Barcelona 1998, “ Searches and Findings” in the Gene Byron Museum 1999, and the 3rd Biennal of the art object toy in the Jose Luis Cuevas Museum 2000. His work has also formed part of important public monuments such as the clay mural in the children’s park “La Estación” in Querétaro 2012 and the mural for the Ángeles hospital in León 2004. In Lenz’s art we can appreciate the influence of international Constructivism and Geometrism. The fundament of his school is a return to simplicity through the purity of Euclidian geometry. Whether in wood, marble, or metal, the observation of Lenz’s geometric compositions allows us to appreciate the harmony and beauty that result from the expression of mathematics. For this show, Lenz will present a series of paintings on wood relief titled “Chromatic Relieves.” Bright and cheerful colors are the perfect complement to dramatic lines: sometimes rigid, other times soft, but always punctual. The reliefs become songs in which the lines mark the rhythm and the change of colors transport us subtly from one scale to the next, always remaining within the ordered melody that is geometry.

Galería Casa Diana
I completed my studies in the School of Visual Arts and the Fashion Institute in New York City. She has had various solo and group exhibitions in important museums such as the Museum of Modern Art “Beaux Art” in Dallas, the Diego Rivera Museum in Mexico City, and the Center for Foreign Languages UNAM in Mexico City. Since 2001, I had directed Galería Casa Diana where she also exhibits her work permanently. For this inauguration, Gutiérrez will present her latest collection of oil paintings in medium and small format as well as small cement sculptures. The title of this collection is “Full Moon” and consists of figurative and abstract representations of various states of contemplation. The work reminds us of the importance of living in the present and appreciating every moment: the delicacy of a flower, the silence in the bottom of the sea, and the infinity of a starlit night. Frequently, I paint animals that invite us to admire the beauty and perfection of the creation and transmitting their peace and tranquility. The oil technique that she uses consists of creating several layers of different tonalities, based initially on abstract figures, and finished with delicate gold and silver patterns. This is how her paintings reflect the depthless light and texture that have become her characteristic style.
This upcoming Saturday, January 17, Galería Casa Diana will host a cocktail from 5 to 8pm to inaugurate an exhibition of Alberto Lenz and Carmen Gutiérrez. The gallery is located at Recreo 48, tel: 152 0885.
