Four Panels and a Play!

San Miguel Writers’ Conference and Literary Festival
February 11-15, 2015
Hotel Real de Minas
Invariably, some of the most popular events at the Writers’ Conference are the panels. A special energy and added value is created when several seasoned experts discuss a topic together. We receive several sets of experiences and opinions for the price of one. We are pleased to announce that the February 2015 San Miguel Writers’ Conference will include four panel discussions. They are all open to the public, and tickets are still available for all of them.
Shaping a Memoir: Finding Your Theme and Your Structure (Workshop #209 – Thursday, February 12, 9am)
A memoir is not a chronological account of your life, but is instead carefully shaped and tightly themed. What will the structure of your memoir be? There are countless possibilities! Panelists will be Allyson Latta, Joyce Maynard, Mary Jo McConahay, Suzanne Braun Levine, and Dinty Moore, moderated by Jay Vogt.
How to Approach and Work with a Literary Agent (Workshop #308 – Thursday, February 12, 11am)
Literary agents do much more than simply place your book with a publisher. They manage your business, obtain the best possible contract for you, sell foreign and other subsidiary rights, advocate for you with your publisher, and guide your decisions about what to write next. Our panelists are all literary agents: Kimberly Cameron, April Eberhardt, Melissa Flashman, and Penny Nelson, with Jay Vogt as the moderator.
Once-in-a-Lifetime Conversation (Workshop #409 – Friday, February 13, 9am)
We are incredibly fortunate to present Gloria Steinem and Suzanne Braun Levine together in a conversation on Friday, February 13, at 9:00am. Gloria, founder of Ms. Magazine, and Suzanne, the magazine’s first editor, will tell stories about the early days of the magazine and the beginnings of the contemporary women’s movement. They will leave plenty of time for questions from the audience.
Self-Publishing for Success: How to Hit the High Notes (Workshop #509 – Friday, February 13, 11am)
Many authors look beyond the traditional world of publishing, eager to avail themselves of the many options there are to publish their work independently. Self-publishing sounds easy — and yet many authors will tell you that good self-publishing is anything but “self”! Panelists will be Judith Gille, Joseph Dispenza, Waverley Fitzgerald, and Stephanie Bennett Vogt, with April Eberhardt, a literary change agent and author advocate, as the moderator.
Hemingway Himself to Attend our Conference!
Actor, playwright, and novelist Ed Metzger will portray the explosive life story of the celebrated American novelist Ernest Hemingway in his highly acclaimed one-man show, Hemingway: On The Edge, Sunday, February 15 at 1:30pm. Metzger ties together the highlights of the great man’s life, as well as his fears, making for a unique theatrical experience. Don’t wait too long to purchase your tickets. Our events often sell out.
