By Jesús Aguado

Ignacio Allende was born 246 years ago in San Miguel el Grande, today San Miguel de Allende in his honor. Annually, the local government pays homage to the Mexican hero with a special program and a parade.

On Tuesday, Jan 20, the Asociación Tradicionalista will present the Desfile de Antorchas (Parade of Torches), which is a procession headed by a man portraying Ignacio Allende on horseback, followed by people dressed as insurgents of the War of Independence (1810), calling for justice and freedom. The parade will go through salida a Querétaro to San Francisco to end up in Plaza Principal where a civil ceremony will be held. The event will close with live music by the Tuna Provinciana.

On Wednesday, Jan 21, at 11am the civic and military parade leaves from calzada de la Aurora, featuring members from the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), war vehicles, beauty queens, members from emergency corporations, allegorically decorated cars, and students. During the parade, planes from the Mexican Air Force will fly under the San Miguel sky. Check the entire program on Festivals and events of Qué Pasa.
